The demand for physical therapy in Kwanjana is high and most people cannot afford the transport. Therefore, we started physiotherapy at our centre once a month. An incredibly nice programme!
Good education, a matter of life and death! Several years ago, we were able to realise a nursery school in Kwanjana. We are looking forward to also being able to realise a primary school in the future.
The child sponsoring program gives the For a Change Foundation the possibility to provide children from the poorest families from Kwanjana with food and education.
As For a Change, we think it is very important to invest in education. Education is development. Education can help people to get out of poverty. We believe that education is the basis for becoming self-sufficient.
Research is very important, because through research, we can investigate what the people of Kwanjana already have, how we can help them to develop further, and we can assist the people to look for solutions.
We are so happy now that the nursery is open again! Finally our sponsor children can come back to school to learn. Only we don't have the space to teach everyone at the same time. High time for new classrooms!
Water is indispensable. Something we do use daily. Especially when every day we have to cook two meals for seventy people, water is extremely important. Therefore we are so happy that there will come running water at the centre. What a blessing!
When we drive across Kwanjana, we can see nice green cornfields all around us. The corn is growing very good this year, and the people look forwards to a promising harvest. But people don't have hope. What is going on?
After the heavy rains in March, many houses in Kwanjana collapsed. We were able to provide emergency relief to the 250 families who were affected. We have researched a long-term solution and this means that new houses will be built.
Every day food is prepared for all children of the sponsorprogram, by the mothers and the action committee. That is a big job, especially in the kitchen we have at this moment. It's a small kitchen and temporarily made when it was raining season.
Because of heavy and steady rainfalls, there is a lot of need in Malawi and also in Kwanjana. We visited all families in Kwanjana and 250 families were affected by the rainfalls and lost (part of) their homes. Therefore, we registered those families and decided to provide them with emergency aid.
