Solar energy

There is no electricity in Kwanjana. This hampers development, especially at the school. But also in storing food that is prepared every day for all sponsor children. We cannot stock food for a whole week because we cannot keep it cool. So we contacted the So Powerful Foundation. They specialise in installing solar power and also finance some of these projects. They have agreed to realise solar energy at our centre too, because they believe in our project.

By April 2025, this project will have been realised and all the classrooms, houses and buildings at our centre will have solar energy. This is a very nice and sustainable solution, which we are extremely happy with. We would also like to thank BURG Machinery very much for their generous donation, which made it possible to realise this beautiful project.

Solar energy is helping us beat poverty step by step. Teachers can now prepare their lessons better as they now have light at night. Children can now get computer lessons, which is important in an increasingly digitalised world.

Electricity also makes a world of difference to us as field workers. Normally, we could not continue working if our laptop was empty, but now we can also work much more efficiently in Kwanjana because we can charge our laptop, print, laminate etc.

For a Change is now literally a beacon of light in the village of Kwanjana! This is how we keep working towards our goal: to strive for healthy, sustainable and thriving communities by breaking the cycle of poverty. And renewable energy brings us one step closer to this goal!
