A volunteer speaks

27 May 2019

I am honored to write something about my role as volunteer for the For a Change Foundation. My name is Lieneke Blokland, 40 years of age, and married. In daily life, I have a caring position and am a nurse in training in the care for elderly people. I always have been a caring person and when Marianne and Annemarie were planning to go to Malawi, I got into contact with the foundation via my brother and sister-in-law (Marianne's sister). This all started with an informative evening which was organized by the girls. More evenings were planned, in which ideas about fundraising were suggested and discussed.

Unfortunately, when the girls went to Malawi, the volunteering was not that easy anymore. The first years I experienced different startup problems and guiding. I planned to stop with my volunteering. There were some last minute activities, without a clear planning, activities that were planned, but lost their goal, and the communication was sometimes hard. However, the love for volunteering and the knowledge I can do something for the foundation in my own way and with my own qualities, made that I am an enthousiastic volunteer again. I feel a good planning, consultation and collaboration are very important to make this possible.

For example, two times a year I take part in organizing the clothing fair, by which is raised more and more money. Also the annual sell of oranges and (photo)cards are part of my volunteering job. And last May, I was also part of the organizing team of the dart tournament. And others may always ask me to help with other activities.

Because of the successes of different activities that keep on growing, more volunteers are needed. So, if you have a few hours left every month to do something for the For a Change Foundation, feel free to contact me and we will be happy to welcome you to the club! Again, feel free to contact me and ask about the possibilities.

I am hoping to see you soon!
