Missing school

19 August 2020

The schools are already closed for half a year. There is no homeschooling, this is difficult in Malawi and especially in the villages, because many parents are not able to read and write. Distance education is also not possible, because almost nobody in the village is having a phone with internet. Many pupils in Malawi - and in Africa - are in a learning deficit. A lot of children do miss school and are feeling bored. We do hear stories of older girls (14 above) who get married, or who are pregnant. No one knows when the schools will reopen. Maybe in September. Maybe not. We hope soon as possible. Because it is becoming clear that children are much less likely to have the coronavirus than older people. Even if the government will decide to leave the schools closed, as a foundation we are thinking how we can start educating our sponsor children again, in a safe way. Today we meet 3 of our sponsor children, who explain shortly why they are missing school. And we miss them too! Hopefully we will meet you kids soon in class!
