A volunteer is speaking

1 July 2020

Dear friends of For a Change,

My name is Hilbert de Vos and I live in Tholen. I work with the Adullam organisation as an activity supervisor for disabled people. I was asked to write something about my involvement as a volunteer for the For a Change Foundation.

It all started around January 2019, when Felix and Annemarie were on leave of absence in The Netherlands and told something about their work in our church in Tholen. I was deeply impressed and decided to participate in the child sponsoring program. A nice boy was assigned to me, named Isaki. It was so special to be able to do something for Isaki.

One month before this happened, I signed up for a working vacation of the Stéphanos Foundation. We were planning to go to Malawi for three weeks to do several building activities, but to also spend some time with the children. It would be so nice to also visit Isaki! I had never been this close to him. And so we did. After contacting Annemarie and some arrangements later, we visited the projects of For a Change and I met Isaki. It was an unforgettable moment. Especially visiting the small house made of mud with a roof of grass impressed me. Isaki lives here, together with his parents and some goats. I was deeply moved by the poor conditions those people live in.

Back in the Netherlands, I met Felix and Annemarie again and they asked me to join For a Change as a volunteer. This seemed a good way to be able to help the poor people in Malawi to me. But the most important motivation is that the Foundation tells the Malawian people and children about the Lord, besides providing with food and education.
